A stucco artist from Carpi (near Modena), Gibertoni studied with Guido Fassi (1584-1649) and is regarded as the inventor of the stucco technique known as scagliola. Worked in Lucca and Florence in the seventeenth century. There are a few surviving tables similar to the one displayed at the Museo Galileo (inv. 3715). Often signed "Charles Gibertoni."
