Leonard Digges
ca. 1520-ca. 1559

An English gentleman, Leonard Digges enjoyed considerable fame as an architect and land surveyor. His writings, completed and published by his son Thomas (c. 1546-1595), include Tectonicum (London, 1556; enlarged version, 1592), which discusses land-surveying methods, and A Geometrical practical treatise named Pantometria (London, 1591), which relied heavily on continental authors such as Peter Bienewitz (Apianus; 1501-1552) and Gemma Frisius (1508-1555).
