Small rectangular or round iron or brass strips, usually paired. The front plate is the one nearest the dial; the back plate is also called the bridge plate. The latter is called a "full plate" when it covers the movement and supports the bridge, and a "three-quarter plate" when it is cut out and the bridge is separate on the same plane.
