The model consists of a small wooden box serving as a base. The box contains a bored wooden disk that represents the protective apparatus of the eye (eyelid, conjunctiva, and so on). The eye is composed of the following: the sclerotic coat with the optical-nerve membrane; the dark coat, which represents the choroid tunic and the black uvea with 80 white fibers and semifibers; the aqueous humor; the crystalline lens; the ciliar ligament with 80 black fibers and semifibers; the retina, which continues with the portion of the optic nerve; and the vitreous humor. The whole is enclosed in the ivory knob with lid, to be screwed on top of the wooden box. The vitreous and crystalline membranes are missing from this specimen.
