Erasmus Habermel

German engraver and craftsman. Studied at the University of Regensburg. In c. 1585, moved to Prague, where he worked for Emperor Rudolf II (1552-1612) with his contemporary Tycho Brahe (1546-1601). Rightly regarded as one of the ablest scientific-instrument makers of the sixteenth century. His instruments are often unsigned, or carry the initials E. H.
