Parisian chemist and doctor. Taught at the Collège de Médecine in Paris. Étienne-François Geoffroy (called l'Aîné [the Elder]) is known for his table of chemical affinities (Table des differents Rapports observés entre differentes substances), which he presented to the Académie Royale des Sciences of Paris in 1718. Geoffroy's table was the model for all the later versions produced beginning in the mid-eighteenth century. It was reproduced in its original form or with minor alterations in several works.
