Count Giovanni Battista Suardi (or Soardi) studied mathematics at the University of Padua with Giovanni Poleni (1683-1761). In 1752, published in Brescia a treatise on mathematical and drawing instruments: Nuovi istromenti per la descrizione di diverse curve antiche e moderne e di molte altre che servir possono alla speculazione de' geometri ed all'uso de' pratici: col progetto di due nuove macchine per la nautica ed una per la meccanica, e con alcune osservazioni sopra de' poligoni rettilinei regolari [New instruments for describing various ancient and modern curves, and many other (curves), that may serve for the speculation of geometers and the use of practitioners; together with a plan for two new machines for navigation and one for mechanics, and with some observations on regular rectilinear polygons].
