Giuseppe Zamboni
1776-1846

Professor of physics in Verona, Zamboni invented a model of dry battery (i.e., without electrolytic liquid) composed of hundreds of paper disks covered on one side with metal foil and on the other with manganese dioxide. The dry battery - which Zamboni also used to power an electric clock of his invention - found many applications in laboratories.
