French engraver specialized in the production of geographic maps, which proved a commercial success. This earned him appointments as engraver to Louis XIV (1638-1715), King of France, and geographer to the Duc d'Orléans (1674-1723). In fact, these titles were usurped, as Nolin based his work on that of Guillaume Delisle (1675-1726). In 1705, Delisle sued him and obtained his conviction for plagiarism.
