John Ellicott
1706-1772

Son of a clockmaker also named John. A worthy continuator of the work of George Graham (1673-1751) in the field of mechanical timepieces (watches, ornamental clocks, and observatory clocks) and scientific instruments. Like other colleagues of his, Ellicott was elected to the Royal Society. Developed the cylinder escapement and applied it to his own clocks. Also invented an ingenious compensation pendulum.
