Florentine naturalist. A fervent supporter and disseminator of the evolutionary theory of Charles Darwin (1809-1882). Held the chair in zoology at the Istituto di Studi Superiori of Florence until 1907. Assembled a valuable collection of invertebrates under glass, now held by the Fondazione Scienza e Tecnica of Florence, thanks to a series of purchases from a scientific-materials dealer on behalf of the Istituto Tecnico of Florence.
