Optical instrument for producing and observing the spectrum of a light source. It basically consists of a thin slit of adjustable width, a lens, a prism, and an observation telescope. Through the telescope eyepiece, the observer sees the spectrum of the light source, composed of a succession of as many lines as there are monochromatic rays in the source analyzed.
