    • Clock from the Convent of Torricella del Pizzo, Cremona (inv. 3932)

This Gothic-style building clock is made entirely of wrought iron. It has two distinct gear trains—one for keeping time and the other for striking the hours. It appears to have been modified to allow for the use of a pendulum which has been lost. The pendulum’s support axis held up a verge escapement, which is also missing. The escapement pallets engaged the teeth of the horizontal crown wheel—or contrate wheel—which is visible in the upper part of the mechanism.
The clock comes from the Giancarlo Del Vecchio Collection.
